Which barcode format should I use?
Code 128 is the usual choice for warehouse locations, asset tags and shipping labels: it is compact and encodes letters, numbers and symbols. Code 39 is older and wider, but still common on asset and equipment tags.
EAN-13 and UPC are for retail products sold through shops. They carry a fixed number of digits and end in a check digit, so a mistyped number will not scan reliably. ITF is often used on cartons and outer cases, and Codabar in libraries and blood banks.
Whatever you choose, leave blank space either side of the bars, print at full size without stretching the image, and test a printed label with the scanner you will use before you print a whole roll.
